Robson Green and fellow north-east actor, Kevin Whately, joined the ACR crew for a row in Alnmouth Bay.
Locals gathering at the sight of a film crew with Robson Green and Kevin Whately could have been forgiven for wondering whether there had been a ‘Midsomer Murder’ or were they about to head off for an ‘Extreme Fishing’ expedition. The rolling out of the ACR skiffs from the Boat House provided the necessary clue.
The second series of Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes is now being filmed around Northumberland and its bordering counties. Without doubt Robson has become the region’s best ‘marketing champion’, promoting Northumberland through his beautifully filmed series on the county and the hidden treasures it has to offer.
The programme sees Robson joined by friends, family and famous faces in some of our wild and wonderful locations, where they highlight the importance of getting into the outdoors ‘to relax, recharge and reconnect’ whilst breathing in nature.
Which led him to an introductory row in a skiff with Kevin and our crew!

Robson complimented Enflaeda and Pride of Aln, the Club’s Skiffs, as ‘fair craft’ and was really interested to hear they had been built by ACR members, especially as he was involved in boat design before his acting career.
The necessary safety briefings were led by Club Chairman, Rhoda Foote, along with rowing techniques. The film crew directed ACR members on their responsibilities, life jackets were donned, and the boats and camera drone launched into a grey, and slightly lively, North Sea.
The unconventional ‘celebrity skiff’ launch, with Kevin already in his seat, was necessary to keep sound equipment (and a rather nice pair of leather walking boots) dry!
Rhoda commented “Robson and Kevin were absolutely charming, encouraging and remarkably good rowers. They were particularly interested in the health benefits of rowing – both for our bodies and for our mental health. Neither of them were phased by being on a choppy sea and finished by saying how much they had really enjoyed it.
Many thanks to all our members who turned out to row or to support from the land.”

It’s great to see the interest our skiffs inspire whenever they take to the water and we are looking forward to their next big appearance with the Club 24-Hour Solstice Row taking place 10am to 10am on the 15 – 16thJune 2023.
