Happy 10th Birthday Alnmouth Community Rowing Club!

Our talented crew of members pulled together to create a very special celebration of our first decade. With Alnmouth Community Rowing events growing in frequency and now size, we are so lucky to have members who love a party and are great at hosting them. Whether a relaxed post row breakfast BBQ on a Thursday morning or a special 10th birthday party!

With skiffs, fresh from a wind whipped North Sea, parked carefully outside, our party crew got cracking with fairy lights and bunting.

No stopping them – a banqueting table for 50 adorned with fresh flowers from Jenny’s garden – picked by David – and twinkly tea-lights were good to go. Table set, super salads and delectable desserts arrayed – the chefs got to work!!

Special mentions must go to ‘Giliano and Pedro’ – dishing out delicious pizzas pronto, and BBQ-Jim at the stove all evening with support crew on the veggie barby.

A huge thank you to Jacqueline – not just a whizz at 2 in the boat – but, as we discovered, a professional cake maker. A triumph of a celebratory gateau – yes we all got sugared up!

And so, to the toast. A decade in existence is an important moment to celebrate. Making sure our glasses were suitably charged, Chairman, Rhoda Foote led us to do just that.

For many newer members her recount of the origins of ACR in a shed at Embleton Mill Farm where a small gathering of enthusiasts built our first skiff, which over the last decade has led to our beautiful home in Alnmouth was a revelation.  A second skiff built, medals won at competitions in the UK and at World Skiff Championships, friendly regattas around the British Isles and rowing on the Tweed, Coquet, Blyth and Aln in Northumberland.

In our tenth year alone, we have already completed some special events including hosting our recent visit from members from the Assens Roklub in Denmark (more to follow on this soon). Our recent 24-Hour Solstice Row, raising more than £2,500 for the RNLI was a huge success and we are all keen to repeat in 2024!

With members now training for the Skiffie Fest taking place in Strangford Lough, Ireland in August and the Skiffs heading over to the Lake District for a row in September, our Club today is vibrant and fun with lots for members to enjoy.

So, our 10th celebrations continue beyond this party and Rhoda led us to raise our glasses and toast “The next 10 years”! And so, we will.
