Alnmouth Community Rowing hoisted the Northumbrian flag and was the sole English skiff at the recent Regatta hosted by Musselburgh-based, Eskmuthe Rowing Club.

Celebrating their 10th Anniversary, Eskmuthe organised a great event and ACR joined crews from North Berwick, Row Porty, Eastern, Queensferry, Boatie Blest in Fisherrow Harbour for a mixture of serious and fun row races.

Six of the nine races included members of the individual clubs, in categories for novices and various age categories up to “250+ mix”. This category comprises a four-man crew whose total age must be at least 250, i.e a rower average of 62.5 years. ACR was proud to boast rowers over 70 on board! A novelty blindfold race over the 1000 metre course was certainly interesting!

Some of the races had rowers from four different clubs in each boat, with the competitors having to adjust to different oars, boat positions and a new crew. It was a great way to meet and learn more about our neighbouring Skiff Rowing Clubs.

The backdrop to a great day on the water was the fantastic view across the Firth of Forth with spectacular weather running across the horizon throughout the day. A thunderous downpour did not deter our hardy rowers, with just a minor pause in the running order.

ACR had teams in all nine races and our Over 60s mixed crew put on a stellar performance with a significant win and were awarded with Eskmuthe-crafted medals and a ceremonial presentation

Eskmuthe, like ACR, are celebrating their 10th year and we would like to congratulate them on hosting a superb event and for celebrating their first decade with the opening of a new boat house.

We look forward to returning to Fisherrow and rowing north of the border again soon!
