Sunshine, Stories, and Strawberry Muffins

A sunny morning, no wind, equipment sorted – it was a perfect day for a r…….walk in the hills.

Thanks to Jen, 10 of us (Willow and Spike included) made our way to Wooler to work on our aerobic fitness.

We set off walking gently up towards Humbleton Hill, this is where the ailments were all shared…a great conversation starter and covering ourselves for when we needed a “photo” break.

Jenny our resident archaeologist shared interesting stories about  the area as we walked along,  although Jenny…I refuse to believe the fact that 3 year old you told your sister.

The chatter lulled a bit as the contours got a little closer together although there was plenty discussion on heart rate monitors. Before we knew it we reached the highest point and the 360 views – Northumberland and the Scottish Borders on an Indian Summer day. Perfect!

Before we set off again, it was a case of do I put my jumper on or not?   Apparently I have to make a note in this blog that at this point I admitted women blow hot and cold! There…I’ve said it.

Now the slope was in our favour and we had our four legged companions keeping us entertained with their antics…Spike likes to take the same path as you at exactly the same time; luckily we managed not to trample him. The gorgeous Willow makes friends  wherever she goes although one trail runner wasn’t impressed when her dog preferred to play with Willow than going down the hill.

Going downhill brought conversations from international espionage to bladder control – that’s what you do when you get to know one another.

The surprise of the day was Ade pulling out not only chocolate muffins from his bag but another box of strawberry muffins. Of course the first ones were so tasty we had to try the other. After all we had another mile to go. Happy Birthday Ade.. we all agreed you have now set the precedent.

Back in time for lunch and plenty recovery time before the racing squad training. It was a lovely way to get to know our fellow club members a little more.

What a great, friendly and supportive club we have.  Look out for more walks and various activities through the winter months.
